USA and allies have power bias, stance improved by imPort population
Cold war state, Russia is antagonistic
'War' as usual causes increase in technological advancement, while preserving stagnation in politics, art and culture. Pro-America propaganda is rife in all forms of entertainment.

Incident in 2008 caused death of heroes, even those who were presumed retired

Implication that US government after the loss of its imPorted heroes and feeling the pinch of the power vacuum within in terms of its cold war relationship began to attempt to replicate abilities, kidnapping members of the population on which to experiment. This is wholly supposition, however it is strongly supported by comments made around the Heropa memorial graveyard on the time of the September 14 swear-in ceremony.

Discussion of alien abduction cannot be wholly dismissed. Government intervention has been mistaken as alien influence in the past. Of course as noone truly understands the porter (and given my recent discovery of aliens supposedly even in my world, as difficult as that is for me to believe) having in fact met several such beings already, it is impossible to dismiss even on its own merit.
